Varnia Henry was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and is of Trinidadian Heritage.
For the past 11 years, Varnia has been mostly performing the genre of Jazz.
While growing up, she was able to enjoy legendary singers such as Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. She has been compared to Natalie Cole. In 2017, Varnia recorded her debut album called Love Legacies as a thank you letter to her some of her favourite Jazz Vocalists.
Varnia saw an opportunity to mix her Caribbean background, with her love of Latin music and her soulful style on contemporary jazz standards. She paid tribute to several legendary singers, lyricists and composers.
Varnia is a 2018 YYC Music Awards Nominee in two categories for her jazz album, Love Legacies:
Female Artist of the Year and The Zachariah Prophets Memorial Award
You will enjoy the uplifting twists and turns of each song and especially surprises like the steel pan instrument from her Trinidadian Heritage.
Varnia has also been known to perform Funk, Soul and Reggae. She has been in two gospel choirs, a R&B/Motown variety band and also a Reggae band as a backup singer.
Ultimately, Varnia loves to bring people together and help others through music. Her ultimate mission is to excite, inspire and spread joy to audiences everywhere.
